Computer Tips

July 28th, 2012

As a small business owner I know how destructive to my business it can be when our computers fail or run slow. I cannot tell you how disturbing it is when I get a phone call from one of my employees late at night that the computer has crashed and will not work properly. Although incidents such as these still occur sporadically, I do not have my computers crash near as often. Here are some tips I have learned over the years about keeping your work computers running properly.

The biggest key is to have anti-virus software on your computer. I do not allow my employees to use the work computers for surfing the Internet. The work computers are specifically for work related tasks. I have found that most computer problems occur when my employees stream music, surf Facebook, and download video games. In addition to keeping the computers running better it also increases my employee’s productivity which leads to more profits for me and more raises for my staff.

Another often overlooked simply computer tip is that many times office computers do not use a surge protector. I learned the hard way how valuable a surge protector is during a recent lighting storm. I fortunately had all of the hard drive backed up on the “cloud”; however I toasted 2 computers in 1 night and they were much more expensive to replace as compared to the cost of a cheap surge protector.

Normally our office computers are turned on all of the time, but occasionally we have to reboot them as you do with all computers. The problem is that we normally are forced to reboot the computer when we have a customer present. I need my computers to boot up as quick as possible and the less stuff I have on my desk top and the less programs I have that auto-load on boot-up allows ,y computers to boot up quicker. I cannot have my customers waiting around while we fix and reboot computers so I do everything I can do to help keep all my work computers running smoothly and to help fight against any potential problems so thats why I call 0Tomball IT support.
